Gratitude for our Spiritual Tribe

“Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” Jane Howard

A (not so funny) thing happened to us on our way to church today: Easter Sunday, Unity in Naperville’s first live service in over a year! We had clothes picked out, on-line reservations made, vaccinations completed (dos doses for both of us), ready to herald in Easter and actually BE present for the unveiling of our beautiful new stage! And then….

Life priorities can change on a dime, but love and commitments don’t waiver. Our pup, Tater Tot, contracted an ailment that’s had us all up for two nights in a row. So, this morning wound up being about Tater Tot. We did what we needed to do and changed plans, watching Unity in Naperville’s Easter service on line while waiting for the vet to call.

Fast forward; it’s now Easter evening. Our vet did call; Tater Tot is in good hands and on the mend. As I reflect, I admit we were disappointed to not have been part of this morning’s service, live and in person. But what I also realize is the phenomenal blessing we have at Unity in Naperville through the technology that allowed us to be part of our spiritual tribe this Easter morning, and every Sunday morning this past year, as we’ve been able to receive Rev. Kitty’s potent messages each week without exception.

On this Easter Sunday 2021, I’m filled with gratitude for our spiritual tribe– for Rev. Kitty, our loving, visionary leader, for Kim-Char and our brilliant Highest Good Band, for Parker and his ever-expanding technical brilliance, for Steve Landry and those who helped him as he caught the vision of our new staging and made it happen, and to our countless Unity-tcks (you know who you are) who have stepped up and helped Unity in Naperville thrive through the long pandemic year.

I wish you a blessed and Happy Easter – from my heart to yours…

Mary Beth Speer
