We are nearly halfway through 2020 and I find myself reflecting on this most interesting and spectacular year. I remember Reverend Kitty’s message series back in January, “2020: Perfect Spiritual Vision”. Who knew back then how important our spiritual vision would be to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health this year? So much has happened in these 6 months, front and center is the Corona Virus Pandemic and racial tension and all the repercussions of both.
Over 100 years ago, our world had a similar trial. The Spanish Flu killed 50 Million people globally including 675,000 in the U.S. in three waves between 1918-1920. It will be interesting to see how much we have learned from our past challenges, and what remains the same. I hope that our Spiritual Lens will help us respond well and empowered by our Twelve Spiritual Powers (Zeal, Wisdom, Faith, Imagination, Life, Love, Order, Power Release, Strength, Understanding and Will) we can establish a deeper connection to our Higher Power, ourselves and our fellow Human Beings.
It was great to see so many in attendance at our Annual Meeting. I saw 50 attendees on zoom and I was so grateful and proud of the community we have built. Reverend Kitty pointed out that prior to our building being closed, our average attendance was 100 people between the two services. To date our average attendance has soared to 200-700, including facebook and youtube. That is great news!
I look forward to seeing our band and Kitty in church next week, hopefully we will have the opportunity to safely and cautiously resume church in our sanctuary next month. In September we will elect 3 new board members. It has been a blessing being a part of such a committed and enthusiastic board. I treasure the experiences and accomplishments we made and look forward to watching new members and new board members continue to grow our church and vision.
As we embark on this new normal for the remainder of 2020, I hope that we can embrace the Ideals for Living, Learning and Serving that Reverend Kitty outlined for us. With God Consciousness, a commitment to Personal Growtha dedication to Loving Relationships and a willingness to take Ownership in supporting and shaping our community (whatever shape and form our higher self deems is ours to take) we can ensure that Unity in Naperville continues to thrive.
