17 Seconds

17 Seconds

Cindy BlankRev Kitty was in fine form this Sunday, with her message centering on Imagination. I cannot un-see her facial expression after she bit into a lemon. From my front row seat, I could even see her eyes watering. And she was right, I swallowed and puckered a bit, because, well…imagination.

That was a pretty gentle illustration, but what we all tend to do is use our imagination in as many negative ways as in positive ways. It is our challenge to choose the positive and not to spiral down the worry-path. This is not always easy. I struggle with worry about members of my family, my own immobility in moving forward the way I desire, as well as our country’s current problems.

What I really liked from Kitty’s message was her call to action for us to take 17 seconds, quoting from Esther Hicks: “If we were to concentrate our attention on one idea for a mere 17 seconds, we would experience as much benefit as if we had labored full-time for an entire year.”

Here’s some 17-second concentration ideas:

  • Re-Vision your history
  • Re-Vision your self-esteem
  • Re-Vision your patience
  • Re-Vision the news
  • Re-Vision your thoughts about money
  • Re-Vision your body-image
  • Re-Vision an uneasy relationship

We can go on and on, but the main point, I believe, is not to get stuck in old thought patterns that are not moving us forward. It’s easy to say, “I could never speak in front of a crowd,” and stay that person forever. FOREVER! With the power of imagination, we can create the person we wish to be and become that person. It is pretty powerful to grasp the “knowing” that we can erase our error-thinking and revise our patterns. As Charles Fillmore said, “There is no progress of the human race without expansion of the imagination.”

What I love about Unity in Naperville is that I get to witness, over and over again, people challenging themselves in ways that inspire me to get un-stuck. Thanks, Unity Peeps!
