Waking Up – Rev. Mary Beth Speer

Wherever you are on your spiritual path, there is probably a point where you began to awaken to the possibility that there is something incredible to wake up to. The “pull of the more” of New Thought is not new – it is ancient wisdom, as old as time. Awakening to even a glimmer of the unfathomable depths of Truth may stir in you an insatiable urge to delve deeper. And you are not alone….

The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep. You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep. People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch. The door is round and open. Don’t go back to sleep. – 13th Century Poet Jalal al-Din Rumi

For each of us, awakening to the realization that I am creating my life experiences through my thoughts is elating, but vastly daunting. Metaphysical teacher Ernest Holmes wrote, “The first great discovery man made was that he could think….and he had to work in conscious union with Life.” However, here’s the good news for each of us: since we’re creating our life experiences through our thoughts, if we don’t like the way things are going, through the spiritual power of new thoughts we can change them.

It takes work to learn how to live an awakened life, and it’s good work! We can learn how to perceive that, for every human challenge, we can awaken to the spiritual solution that results from right thinking. New Thought offers a guiding path to follow, and Unity in Naperville is part of the global New Thought Movement. We have rich resources to help wake up to the Reality that there is only One, called by many names…. We are all one with that, one with an ever-expanding, limitless, infinite universe. And, we each have the freedom – and responsibility – to think into and out of it any way we choose.

I’m so grateful for Unity in Naperville, and to be walking my spiritual path with you! Rev. Kitty offered us an inspiring affirmation: “I am an awakened being, living on an awakened planet, thinking from an awakened consciousness.”
