Let’s start with the first Unity Principle, which is where Rev. Kitty started her lesson with us this past Sunday.
“There is only One Presence and One Power in the Universe and in My Life, the All-Loving Goodness of God.”
Okay, so I’m not going to lie to you, I have heard and said this many, many times and it is a guiding principle for me. I didn’t even think of it as the First Principle of Unity, but, of course, it is. That is why it is driven into my memory and into my heart and into my spirit. I live by this principle. Now, I guess I should get Ellen Debenport’s book, “The Five Principles, A Guide to Practical Spirituality.” Or at the bare minimum, look up the Five Principles, and if I don’t do that, I guess I should pay attention for the next four Sundays, as Kitty addresses each of the last 4 principles in her lessons for us.
Kitty took us through a journey with some words that describe God, and there were a lot of them on the screen. Words like intelligence, consciousness, life, power, eternal, absolute truth, substance, and the list goes on. God is Spirit is something that Kitty touched on, choosing to take the emphasis off the connotation of the punishing God or to fear God. I know many folks have trouble, and a have bad association with, the word “God.” However, the God of my understanding now is different from the God I knew growing up, especially with my Southern Baptist preacher Granddaddy.
So whatever word or words you are comfortable with, use that. God (or whatever term you choose to use) is NOT a being having good qualities but is goodness, grace, and understanding.
Moving on from the lesson, the meditation, another combo from Kitty and Kim-Char, was absolutely beautiful and stunning. “Living in the Heart of God.” And Kim-Char’s performance of what I think is an original song she created, “Overwhelm Us” (River of Life), was beautiful and performed as only our Kim-Char can do, with all her passion and energy.
