Special summer message to Parents from Rev. Kitty

Kitty Benson Laughing minHi Parents and Grandparents!

I just wanted to share a “good news update” with you about our Unity Kids program.  We recently held a teacher’s training for those interested in joining our team and, in May, we expanded our team to six teachers who will be supporting our Unity Kids with their Divine Love & Wisdom. New teachers undergo a background check and the team will receive regular training with me or one of our regional Unity consultants.

We have also selected a new curriculum to share with our Unity Kids (Grades K-5th) about our basic Unity principles.  This is a chance for our children to learn about the same powerful spiritual principles that the adults hear about every week, but at a level they can understand. These principles remind them that God is good and always within everyone and in all things; we are each a unique expression of God and we are good; the thoughts we think are important because they have the power to create our world; we connect with God through prayer by remembering God’s goodness within us and in our life’s circumstances. We will approach the various topics through several different learning styles (including food & science!) so I’m sure we will reach an understanding with all of our kids.  The lessons will be based on all kinds of books with a spiritual message as well as occasional Bible stories so they will hear from many points of view. We will also be including time every Sunday for sharing our “highs” of the week, practicing a short kid-friendly version of meditation, and will be inviting the kids into an offering. As you know, Unity teaches the importance and the power found in giving, so we’re hoping you will help us teach your children that same lesson by encouraging them to be prepared to take part in a weekly offering.

We also will continue to invite our Unity Kids into the beginning of the Sunday Service with us on the first Sunday of each month so they can not only be blessed and recognized by all of us as we celebrate the gift of their Inner Light, but they can also take part in the joy of our music before they head off to their own kid-friendly lesson. And even though I will be on sabbatical this summer (returning Aug. 19), our prayer chaplains will have the joy of blessing our children at the first of the month in my place.

I hope you see how much we LOVE your children…and we hope that even though many of you may be traveling this summer, our teaching team will be ready every week with a wonderful experience for our Unity Kids.  Will you please be sure to include time in your week for spiritual refreshment for the whole family? (check unityinnaperville.org frequently to see all the great speakers, music and programs offered this summer while I’m away!)  You and your families will travel with me in Spirit this summer during my sabbatical.  I see this season being a time of renewal for all of us as we continue to include a conscious oneness with God at the center of all we do.  Have a blast and I’ll see you in August!

With love and blessings,

Rev. Kitty
