Service

How may I be of service?  How did I choose this topic for this Blurb?  It started with our beloved Kevin Conlin this morning when I asked him if he would light the candle and lock and unlock the backdoor at the appropriate time.  You see, I haven’t figured out how to use that fancy lighter, so I lean on Kevin, who graciously accepts the duty (part of the Sunday Service Assistant duties).  And I am also challenged with how to lock/unlock the back door.  I’ve been leaning on Kevin to help me do these duties for me for several months now.  But it was his words today that prompted this Blurb.  He said, “I  love being of service.”  I so appreciated that statement and the kindness behind it.

How about when, after the Shamrock Shenanigans, people stayed late to clean up.  Or the next day, when people stayed after the service to move the tables and chairs.  Small acts of service make a difference.

Little things make a difference in all areas of life.  I have a friend (mostly a Facebook friend), and when she was having surgery and needed help afterward, I was unable to help because I was out of time.  But I stayed in touch with her – mostly via texting, because that is her preference for communication.  And I invited her to Bunco on Friday.  She almost backed out because she was down from being alone and had stayed in bed most of the day, But she put on her sweatpants and came with me, and had a great time.   And we had a great conversation all the way on the ride to and from UIN for Bunco.

When a friend reaches out to me, even something as simple as a phone call, it lifts me up.  That, to me, is another example of an act of service.

Little things make a difference.
