NPV and IRR

For those of you not familiar with accounting lingo, this is Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return. These take known information, assumptions, and formulas and use them to calculate the profitability of potential investments. This is not an accounting lesson though. As usual, my brain took several things I was learning across the last few days and created a synthesis.

When we want to learn something new or expand our knowledge and practice anything, it takes an investment of time. We make these decisions all day long. What do I spend this next piece of time doing? If I am going to do meditation or study, I am going to have to wait to do something else. Or remove something from my to-do list altogether. What is important to me? What is the “Internal rate of return” on that? What is the gain for spending my time this way vs. that way? Some choices seem easy, but it is often hard to forgo the short-term gain for the long-term. It is hard to practice something you are not good at instead of doing more of what comes easier or what you have already mastered. So I am going to spend some time changing my consciousness in certain areas of my life. It may not be fast. Like Myrtle speaking of “centers of life … being slow to wake up”, I will be patient with them, and myself as I learn a new thing. The payoff will be worth it.

Blessings to you all, Susan Snowden – Board Treasurer
