More Awakening in the World

As we embark on Staging for An Awakening World here at Unity in Naperville, our country is having an awakening as well.  As the inauguration of our new President and Vice-President was done differently than in the past, we were introduced to a new voice, the voice of Amanda Gorman.  So young and so powerful, with her own history and her vision for our country.

This isn’t plagiarism if I give her credit, right?  I, along with so many others were so struck by her powerful worlds on Wednesday.  So I just have to repeat a few of her words for us all to ponder again.  So everything you see in quotation marks and italics here are her words.

“We the successors of a country and a time where a skinny Black girl

descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of being President, only to find herself reading for one.”   And perhaps, one day, she will be President, in this awakening world.

“To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters, and conditions of man. And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us but what stands before us.” Let’s remember this and see what we can become in this awakening world.

“In every nook of our nation in every corner called our country,

our people, diverse and beautiful will emerge, battered and beautiful.”

And this is part of our awakening world.

“The new dawn blooms as we free it.

For there is always light,

If only brave enough to see it.

If only brave enough to be it.”

So in our awakening, let’s be brave.

I am waking up, are you?
