Likes Attract

We all know how Facebook will show content related to what you have interacted with in the past. Any news feed you use will provide content that aligns with what you have clicked on in the past. Ads you see on your phone or online are shown based on your online activity. We have figured out how to write programs that follow universal law: “Thoughts in mind produce after their kind”.

How often do you think about the same thing in relation to the people and events you see out in the world? I have noticed in my life that I don’t have to intentionally put anyone out of my life. I don’t seek out someone who is habitually hateful, but I also will not avoid a friend having a bad season in their life. Still, negative people often don’t want to hang around with someone who won’t play “Ain’t that awful…” games. When you don’t have interests in common, and like to pay attention to the same things, you drift apart. Even if you don’t agree all the time, when you have things in common you tend to spend more time together.

I am happy we can be back in the building together. I am grateful that we have the opportunity to see each other in person and just hang out on Sundays and at other events. The online option is great, but there is a deliberate mental effort required for me to have a conversation over Zoom. For me, it feels more organic when we are in person. I can drift from small conversation to small conversation. I encourage anyone to come on Sundays and come to events. I promise it is worth the effort to set the alarm, get out of your pj’s and give a couple hours to it. Use the online calendar and the newsletter to set alerts for signing up and attending events. We already know we are “attractive” to each other. Enjoy that energy.
