Kitty Benson – We Can Create a World That Works For All

If you were part of our Sunday service this past week, you got to hear me do something I rarely do… address a hot political topic.

There are a few reasons why I usually avoid this at all cost.

First, the government prohibits leadership in ministry from advising their congregation on who to vote for, that is, if they want to keep their nonprofit tax exempt status. Secondly, I love you all and would never want to make you feel uncomfortable by speaking in favor of something that you may disagree with in the political arena. And thirdly, when it comes to solving problems that involve our government, I wish to place my focus where the power truly lies… in Spirit. However, when I sense that something has occurred that has created a strong energy in our congregation, I make an exception and make it part of my Sunday message. Not so that I can weigh in with my opinion, but to do what I love best. To remind us, (including me) of where our good comes from. And no matter at what end of the political spectrum we live, to remember that Government is neither the source of our good nor has the power to keep us from our good.  Do I vote? Yes. And I trust that all things are working together for the highest good. I know that whether the final result agrees with me or not, it is the one Presence and Power in the universe that is my loving Source, and if I remain peaceful and poised, centered in this Presence, I am always aligned to receive my highest good. So take a breath, get out there and vote if you so choose, and all the while remember that the loving, supportive life you are seeking is really an inside job between you and Spirit.

May we all seek first to be the change that we desire in the world, and I have every faith that, with or without government involvement, we can create a world that works for all.

Love, Kitty
