Kindness and Gray Hair

I read Rev Kitty’s newsletter where she talked about Kindness Week.  It’s a good reminder for everyone on how easy it is to be kind.

I like to live like every week is kindness week.  Honestly, I don’t do anything major generally.  But, I feel like it’s the little things that sometimes makes the biggest impact.  I like to compliment people on their appearance…a new haircut, a pretty dress, a cute pair of shoes. I do this in a genuine way…I really like what I am complimenting the person on. One day in a restaurant, a woman passed by and I told her I loved her dress.  She literally stopped and said, “You made my day.  When I put it on, I wasn’t sure I should wear it.” But, most of the time, it is enough to see someone perk up and smile, or begin talking like we’re old friends.

I like it when Unity has special projects too.  It’s an easy way to participate and/or donate and help people less fortunate. Even though I will never meet the people I may help, it’s just a good feeling to know I’m helping someone.

And, as we know, the more you give, the more you receive.  There have been several times when I’m at Lowe’s struggling with a big bag of potting soil or whatever, and a man passing by will come over and help me get it in my car.  And, when I travel, if I’m struggling to get a bag put in the overhead compartment, a man or a woman will help me get it up there. Or someone will help me get my way-to-heavy bag off the carousel (I think the gray hair helps!).

But, in either instance, being kind to others or others being kind to me, warms my heart and makes me happy!

I’m grateful.
