Holiday Giving for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Screen Shot 2022 11 20 at 8.53.27 AM

Deadline to give – Sunday, Dec 11th

Help the children of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren experience the joy of Christmas morning! This year we will be providing gifts for approximately 10 families and 18 kids, ages 8 months to 19 years old. Each grandparent has submitted a list of items that their grandchildren would enjoy or gift cards for older children to select something for themselves.

For those who would like to purchase gifts via Amazon, Metropolitan Family Services created an Amazon wish list to make ordering easy. All you need to do is:

  • Click here to access the wish list.  You will see a list of items grouped by initials of the grandparent who requested the items.  *Note:  There is no way to access the wish list using Amazon Smile.
  • Add one or more of the items to your shopping cart.
  • Proceed to check out.  Be sure to select the address “Nathan Underhile’s Gift Registry Address” when you are checking out so that the gift will be sent directly to Metropolitan Family Services employee Nathan Underhile.
  • Once your purchase is complete, Amazon will automatically remove the item from the wish list registry.

For those who prefer to shop for items without using Amazon, there is a “non-Amazon” wish list also.  The items on the non-Amazon list are not on the Amazon list and vice versa. The non-Amazon list will be available in the Front Room on Sundays or by emailing admin@UnityInNaperville.org. When you select an item to purchase from the non-Amazon list, it will be removed from the list so that we don’t have multiple people purchasing the same item.  Please label the non-Amazon gifts with the initials from the list and return it unwrapped to the front room by December 11th.

Gift cards of any type or amount and monetary donations are also welcome.  Drop off gift cards in the Front Room by Sunday, December 11th. To donate online, please click here and enter “Christmas Gifts” in the reason box.

About Grandparents Raising Grandchildren…

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) program at Metropolitan Family Services mobilizes support services for older caregivers who are raising children. The GRG program offers a day and evening (GRG) support group, clinical guidance by licensed social workers and counselors, counseling services for the adult caregivers and for the children they care for. The GRG Support Group provides peer support for grandmothers, grandfathers, and other relatives raising their relatives’ children.  Grandparents raising their grandchildren:

  • Meet to support one another
  • Share experiences, challenges, successes, resources and helpful tips
  • Receive education in topics of interest: legal, financial, insurance
  • Receive assistance with housing, meals, transportation, emergencies

The grandparents come from all areas of DuPage County and care for children of all ages, ranging from newborn to adult. Grandparents can be single, suffer from health issues themselves, and/or have financial challenges trying to raise a second family at an older age. Our GRG program offers a safe place to come together and share emotional support and needed resources.
