Gordon Herzog – The View From My Window

Greetings from Carriage Way, Aurora Illinois USA! This is the view from my Dining Room window, which is where I set up my “home office” because my actual home office in the basement had WiFi problems. I started this “Shelter In Place” in mid-March. There were no leaves on the trees outside, but there are a lot of evergreens out there so I was able to see green. And I was even able to watch a couple of snowstorms roll through. I got to watch a Robin couple build a nest in that evergreen on the right. I got to watch them work incredibly hard constantly bringing food to their hatchlings and this week I got to watch them teach their babies to fly. (I do fit some work in from time to time. Really.) And now the lilacs are blooming and I open the window in the morning and the whole room fills with the smell of my mother’s favorite flower. Which takes me back to my childhood.

A friend invited me to join a Facebook group called “The View From my Window” and I’m so happy she did. I’ve seen so many kind and beautiful posts from people all over the world! It is a refreshing global reminder that we are all in this together. This pandemic is absolutely something to be reckoned with, it’s not something to be afraid of, but it is most certainly something to be mindful of, learn about and respect. This is Mother Nature, folks. She doesn’t care what gender, race or nation you come from and she especially doesn’t care what political party you belong to. Respect yourself, respect others and wear a mask when you should.

I want you to know that your Minister and Board of Directors is anxious to reopen Unity In Naperville and begin to return our community back to normal. Billions of people across the globe want the same thing for every aspect of their lives. It gives me a sense of solidarity with humankind to know that we share a common goal. But we have a responsibility to make sure that everyone is safe and protected and I can assure you that this is the primary consideration for every move your Board makes in these times.

In the meantime, we have a community that has rallied and we have so many online opportunities to connect, be spiritually nourished and also find fellowship. And ladyship! Go to UnityInNaperville.org and check out our calendar and see the many things going on in this vibrant community. And please remember to continue your financial support for Unity In Naperville. We continue to incur rent, utilities and other financial obligations that make our online ministry possible and also make sure our physical space is ready for when we reopen. So hang in there Essential Light Workers! We love you. We miss you. And we will see you soon.
