Divine Source

As we embrace summer I am reminded of a poem by Mary Oliver called The Summer Day. Mary asks “Who made the world? Who made the swan, and the black bear? And tell me what it is you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” I have been asking myself this last question since I retired last year, what will I do with myself now?

On the last Sunday morning in March, I was drinking my coffee, petting my dog and thinking that I would watch Rev. Kitty on YouTube instead of getting dressed and going in person. After all I was tired and didn’t feel like figuring out what to wear and how to fix my hair. As I was nurturing these justifications for staying home, a clear thought emerged that said, “Just show up.” I didn’t question the idea, just got up from the couch, took a shower and got ready.

After the Sunday message, Rev Kitty mentioned there were openings on the Board and she was looking for members to run for election. The applications were on the table in the vestibule and she encouraged members to sign up and serve. I pondered this idea and wondered if I was even eligible since I was so new to Unity. As I was looking over the application, a member came up to me and remarked that I would be a good fit for the board. On the way out of the building a second person said that she had been thinking of me for the board and thought my skillset would be of value. Talk about the Universe intervening and affirming a person for just “showing up.”

Somewhere along the way, I had forgotten what it means to show up for myself in my life. I believe the thought of “just show up” that day, came from the Divine Source intervening to answer the question what will I do with my one wild and precious life.

Always show up! Listen to your Divine Source. It may seem small but someone will notice and you never know what benefit will come of it! Brene Brown assures us, “Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.”
