June. Another month in the powerful year of 2020. Another month of physical-distancing, but there is a change beginning to break the surface. Our hearts seem to be reaching out to one another, holding on with more and more tender care. There are times, in this month of seeming chaos, that I realize it is exactly what was needed. Not the reasons behind it…racism, sexism, homophobia…those are horrors to be righted. But it is the unfolding of the petals of humanity, blossoming toward the sun, growing toward a nurturing future, that give me hope.
This is Pride month and I can say to the world that I am gay and share my magnificent wife with the masses, knowing there are legal protections in place for us to not have to think about the “old days,” when holding hands in public felt dangerous. For most of my adult life, I “took it for granted” that there would never be gay marriage in America, much less a widespread attitude of “live and let live” toward gay people, which has permeated much our country.
I do not take this for granted, because we have learned something this year…we cannot.
Life and all that we hold dear can change in a second. Whether it is a virus released through Nature or one borne from the error thinking of Mankind, we have witnessed much this year.
The one thing we should take for granted is that we are all connected. This month will continue to pulse with a groundswell of energy and I choose to let it vibrate within me. I choose to open up my insides and absorb the lessons being taught to us in this moment of history. I choose to wrap all the hurt people, all the colors, all the genders, all the creatures, all the growing things, and our planet, in an energy field of love. If each and every one of us can do this one powerful act, just imagine. Imagine we are one.
