Cindy Blank – Heed Your Calling

Heed Your Calling/If Not Now, When?

This past Sunday, we had the pleasure of hearing another great artist, Freebo, share his message and music during this summer of guest speakers.  His message, “Heed Your Calling/If Not Now, When?” hit home with me.  How about you?

This is a challenge for me, as I suspect it is for others, as well.  I have had periods in my life where that “something inside” made it impossible for me NOT to act.  I had to leave home as soon as I could.  I had to become a law enforcement agent to experience “real life.”  I had to get that transfer to Hawaii.  I had to have Kim in my life, forever.  I had to fight cancer.  These were all no-brainers to me.

Sometimes, though, I feel I have lost touch with, as Freebo calls it, that “yearning, churning, burning” calling inside.   It’s easier to go through the motions of the “have-to’s” in life, which unfortunately leave little energy for expressing one’s creative self (my excuse, anyway.)

Freebo said that “suppression leads to depression and is only cured by expression.”  I am a fairly happy person so it is not always easy to identify that yearning, churning, burning part of myself that is waiting to be expressed.  Can it be that if I am content, I don’t have a suppressed passion to express?  NOPE.  Not gonna buy that one.

One last Freebo quote: “Spirituality is the expression of one’s creative self.” Here in Unity, we are not only safe to express ourselves, we are encouraged to do so.  That is one of the reasons Unity is so special to me.  So join me, you happy folk, in looking inside and finding out ways we can creatively express ourselves.  It should be a fun journey.
