Change is the act of becoming different or of causing someone or something to become different. Unity has been changed over the past year. We have had planned changes that were within our control, such as the renewing of our space. We have had unplanned changes that were, as it turns out, also completely within our ‘control’. While we couldn’t control the onslaught of a pandemic, or the government-implemented shut down and gradual re-opening requirements, we could completely control how we reacted to that. Which was people pitching in to maintain a seamless migration to all Unity programs and services made available online.
Spring should be a time for renewal. And even though I have looked to the past in this letter in, it is because I am looking forward to upcoming changes. I am looking forward to what Unity will be in its next phase. I am looking forward to having people coming together again. I am looking forward to in-person events and classes. And right now, I am most looking forward to the future, and what will be envisioned by the new Unity Board that will be elected next week! As my term as Unity’s Board President closes (as well as Gordon Herzog’s term), I am saddened that I will no longer be a part of the Board, which has been a means of deep connection for me to a place and people that I love. It has been my honor and privilege to serve in this position, and I’m sure Gordon feels the same way. The new Board will have Unity In Naperville in capable and loving hands and I am excited for the strategic visioning they will do to further Unity on its path. I will continue to hold them in my thoughts to support that visioning!
Peace and love,
Beth Schwartz
Unity Board President
