Beth Schwartz – The Unity Power of Strength

I am always delighted by the up-lifting energy created by prayer and meditation during each of our Sunday services. Even though we are physically apart, I feel it filling my room and flowing out into the world around us!

On this past Sunday, the last day of Black History month, Rev. Kitty’s message covered the history of how African Americans have historically been treated within the Unity church. It was difficult to hear how Unity, and indeed the rest of the country, treated fellow humans in the past. And while you can look at it as a marker for just how far we have come in correcting those wrongs, we, as a church and a nation, have a ways to go to having the differences of race be no factor in how we view and treat each other. And there are so many other ways in which our society lacks such unity. This lack of unity makes my heart hurt!

This inner tugging tells me, the Unity church’s vision is going to take great spiritual Strength. Not physical strength, which is just the opposite, forcing our will, opinion and judgements onto others and making them do it our way! Rather spiritual strength empowers us to stand at the center of a swirling life and controversy, and just watch the winds, feel the tension of the chaos of life, and then allow a Divine inner knowing to bubble up from within, and have it tell what is ours to do. Spiritual strength will empower us to the action we are guided to take.

As I hold this empowering vision, I might turn on the news and see a hate-filled world, dominated by political and corporate voices, geared towards conflict and beating down others so they can have their way by controlling others. As opposed to allowing the Rhetoric make me mad, I need to remember to pause and breathe in the up-lifting energy I feel on Sundays, and engage spiritual strength while asking the Divine to guide my steps in manifesting our goal of a unified, joy-filled world, co-created in love, harmony and abundance!

Namaste, Beth Schwartz, Unity Board President
