Beth Schwartz – The Altitude of Gratitude

So. The holidays are now upon us. Joy. We all are thrown into the stress and the expense, and the busy-ness of the season.  Yet we hope to catch a bit of the joy along the way, and to just get through it.

Reverend Mary Beth Speers spoke on Sunday about, “The Altitude of Gratitude.” She pointed out that within the past week, we probably all had pie, and she used this as a lovely metaphor for our life experience.  You are the center of your own universe, represented by pie.  As your pie gets cut into pieces, and people want more and more of your pie, you feel like you are left with less, and that it’s getting in the way of your good.  But if you realize the pie expands out into the limitless, boundless space of opportunity and possibility, there is no end to how much pie you can receive!

If we can take this image of infinite pie (mmm, delicious!), and apply it to how we think about the holiday season, the joy will surely rise and come through, facilitated by the energy of our gratitude.  Make a choice to elevate yourself into this thinking and others will rise with you.  As my son’s Boy Scout troop always used to say – “You can never have enough pie!”

Happy Holidays!
