Beth Schwartz – I Am the Joy of God

Bob Hope once said “My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?” Christmas is not in the tinsel and lights and outward show. The secret lies in an inner glow. It’s the lighting of a fire inside your heart.

The topic of Rev. Kitty’s talk on Sunday was titled “I am the Joy of God”, and what an uplifting service it was for the Christmas season! A number of Unity women gathered Sunday afternoon to share in the experience of baking together. Having just come from this uplifting Sunday service, the mood was festive and positive. Even though none of us had ever taken part in a “cookie bake”, we all went into it with positivity, as we had chosen joy! Those who had come not to bake, but to simply share in the fellowship, were soon digging in to help those who had brought recipes to work with. It was a chaotic, but very joy-filled afternoon of flour and chocolate and nuts and sugar, mixing and measuring, baking and decorating, and Christmas music….and truly was filled with the love and spirit of Christmas! We prepared containers of cookies for Unity members who may not be able to bake for themselves, and had an abundance of cookies left over for each of us to have sufficient cookies to also share this Christmas Joy with our families! I think this is going to be one of my new favorite traditions of Christmas!

So, may you each choose Joy this season, and easily find it within yourselves. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

A JOYous and peaceful Christmas season to you all, my Unity friends!
