Awakening from Illusion

Kitty’s present Sunday series is about Staging an Awakening.  An awakening from what?  Let me use an example.  When we sleep at night, we are often in a dream state.  We are surrounded by images and thoughts/feelings from our subconscious.  Perspective is distorted and often filled with exaggerated emotions.  This is one form of consciousness asleep.  Similarly, we spend much of our waking time with our Christ consciousness asleep.  Similarly, our daily lives can fall into confusion and difficulty for lack of divine guidance.  Awakening that Christ consciousness through the deepening of our own awareness is the type of awakening we are seeking.  Kitty will be exploring this with us in the coming weeks.

The human race suffers from lack of a divine perspective.  In Joni Mitchell’s song “Both Sides Now”, she shares a  perspective on her life.  Prominent in this is the illusive nature of truth.  Clouds are used as a metaphor for barriers that create that illusion.

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

The sun is Truth, the clouds are the obstruction of our limited human beliefs.  Through spiritual practice, we can awaken to the Truth of our oneness with Spirit and become better able to tap that Power within us.  We can gradually clear away the clouds and even if we do not end up with a crystal-clear day, partly cloudy might be a great improvement over rain and snow.

At the end of the song Joni laments:

It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all

Let’s aspire to a happier life experience.  Let’s begin now.  Have a great week!!!
