A Message of Freedom from Rev. Kitty

Yesterday our country celebrated Independence Day. Most often we do this with a day off from work, backyard barbecues, and fireworks. But during my Sunday message I had a few things to say about how it might be hard for many of us to celebrate right now. Please listen to the recording at UnityInNaperville.org if you missed it. But today I’d like to tag on to some information I shared about Daryl Davis. Mr. Davis is a black man who has been befriending members of the Ku Klux Klan for the last 30 years, and in doing so, has inspired over 200 men to leave a life of hate. Daryl has also played a part in developing the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) which has developed Pro-Human learning standards for K-12 Education. The curriculum focuses on the universal ethical standards of diversity, fairness, understanding and humanity. I LOVE knowing that he is helping to foster such divine work. I think most will agree that the best time to dissolve racism and bias while promoting open-mindedness and compassion is during childhood…preferably before harmful error beliefs can get established in consciousness. Daryl is also involved in a program for adults that supports a Pro-Human approach to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. The goal here is to improve communication skills, demonstrate empathy, and overcome cognitive bias. To learn more about FAIR and the work of Daryl Davis, visit Fairstory.org or Fairdiversity.org.

As I mentioned on Sunday, I realize most of us will probably not go to such lengths to promote independence from the oppression we’ve experienced in our country these last few years (and centuries). But please remember that we ALL have the means to free ourselves from the tyranny of the ego. This is where oppression begins…within. And within is also where we’ll find our freedom… when we remember our Powers to Overcome. If you missed my message, please take a listen to learn more about our Powers of Release, Faith, Dominion and Understanding. When we are free from a belief in unworthiness, lack, or limitation, we can become Faithkeepers for others. I hope you’ll join me in the work that we are ALL not only called to do but designed to do as unique expressions of the Divine. May we all come to know true freedom as we come to know our oneness with Spirit and each other.

With love, Kitty
