Dianne Martin

PRESIDENT

I’m excited to serve as President of the Board of Trustees. I look forward to helping to move the center forward. I don’t have all the answers or ideas so I encourage you to let me know what you think as we move forward.

VICE PRESIDENT

I have been a seeker of truth and spirituality for most of my adult life and my first experience with a Unity church was when I attended Unity in Oak Park when I moved to the Chicago area after college..  Unity in Naperville has supported me over the years and I am grateful to my community.  Unity is where my heart feels safe, comfortable and loved.   I recently retired after nearly 30 years of service to the Environmental Protection Agency and I now have the time to devote to do the work Spirit is calling me to do.  I have an adult daughter and a magical miniature poodle puppy to share my life.  My hobbies include dogs, animals of all kinds, science, photography, crafts, reading, and most things techie (you will find me in the tech booth most Sundays)

TREASURER

I have been attending Unity services since 2006. I found Unity in Naperville in 2009. I served on the board several years ago, rolled off and then ran again and was elected as an alternate. I then became a voting member when someone had to step down. I always enjoy serving this community in many ways. I like the bridge between my numbers (corporate accountant) and my spiritual life that serving on the board allows me to create. Thank you for letting me share my time and talents in this way.

I heard about Unity when I was attending the School of Metaphysics in 2014. This was a time in my life where I was experiencing a lot of changes, job, marriage, housing, passing of my Dad. I needed a way to think differently about my life so I could move forward and not get stuck. We had a movie night at the school and my teacher said they invited members of a church called Unity. I had a lot of questions and my conversations with the members who joined us intrigued me to want to join them. The issue was I worked on Sundays. I set my intention and the universe helped me get here, with a “sigh” of relief and gratitude, my spirit settled in.

My desire to be a Board member is rooted in the joy of helping others grow and in turn see my spirit moving forward. This is my quest at Unity, to work with others, learn and grow my internal self and connect with the divine energy of this community.

From attendance at my first Sunday Service at UIN with Rev. Kitty, I knew this was my spiritual home. I was in search of a community of spiritually like-minded people. UIN’s core values resonated with me…. Wholeness, Love, Open-mindedness, and Humor. Humor? Now these are my kind of people and my kind of church! I look forward to serving this community, being of benefit, and coming to know more members through service on the Board. Before I came to know Unity, my spiritual path included growing up in the Catholic church from childhood well into my adult years and also serving as a leader for its’ Life Teen program. Additionally, I learned of principles of prosperity, wholeness and love from leaders of various churches and many great authors such as Wayne Dyer, Sonia Choquette, Louise Hay. I appreciate that UIN incorporates quotes and knowledge from many wise teachers. Spiritual growth is a passion of mine, a necessity. I have had my eyes opened to many spiritual principles which have expanded my beliefs and understanding of what it means to be a spiritual being having a human experience. I look forward to growing together with the congregation of UIN.

Unity is the perfect place for me, with focus on spirit, love, and affirmative prayer.  My interest for the Board stems from wanting to serve Unity in a capacity greater than myself.  To quote the great and late Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.” This is my opportunity to throw something back, get more involved and serve our Unity community!  I’m excited and honored to bring new ideas, along with a fresh set of eyes and ears, to assist with the needs of our current and future members.

I am a wife and mother of 2, with a passion for touching the lives of people from all backgrounds.  I have served as a steering committee member for many years making pivotal decisions, volunteering time, mentoring, serving the community, engaging younger generations, and other countless efforts.  I am ready to impact our spiritual community as a valued Trustee of the Board!  Thanks for having me.
