Rev. Kitty spoke on the gift of giving this week, encouraging us to give from a place of joy and love. There have been times that I have found myself giving out of a sense of obligation, rather than from a place in which I choose to experience all the positive aspects of giving. It feels much better to go to a store or search online for a gift that “strikes” me and touches me, really knowing that the recipient will love it. Each of us has the ability to give in such a way, to have a positive effect on the recipient.
I have had the good fortune to observe the generosity of so many individuals here at Unity in Naperville. Have you noticed that our needs are continually met? We ask, and we are given. I have no doubt that each of you give from your heart, whether it is in a volunteer position, purchasing a needed item, attending a fundraiser or giving financially. In short, because of your giving natures, Unity in Naperville is thriving.
And, it is not always a material or financial gift. Quite often, I have found the enjoyment of sharing time and good conversation with others outweighs any material object we could exchange. There is a passage in the Daily Word (12/19/18) that spoke to me on the subject of giving. “Life is a perpetual process of giving and receiving. EVERY TIME I SHARE—TIME, ATTENTION, LOVE—WAVES OF ENERGY IMPACT THE WORLD AROUND ME. Knowing this, I choose to give Presence, not just presents!”
Holy cannoli, that is some good stuff! We are so lucky here at Unity in Naperville, because we get it! Don’t you feel it? It seems to me that Unity in Naperville is firing on all cylinders, full steam ahead! It’s all because of you and you and you and you and you….YOU GET IT!
Thank you for sharing your gifts with us.
